How to Ground Yourself This Fall Season – 5 Tips

What better time to ground yourself than fall? It’s such a refreshing season, full of new beginnings, optimism, and action. But with that comes the pressure to stay busy and strive to be your best. While that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it can also bring stress and anxiety. So, how do you care for yourself when the world feels heavy and there’s no end in sight?
Let’s start by talking about what it means to be grounded. In this context, being grounded is about staying present, clear-headed, and aware, even when life speeds up. We won’t always feel perfectly grounded—life has a way of throwing us off balance—but we can still work toward finding calm amid the chaos.
To help you achieve that calmness, I've thought of a few tips to help you ground yourself this fall—or any time, really.
5 Ways to Stay Grounded
Journaling
Journaling is a great way to express yourself without judgment. It’s a powerful grounding tool that many people overlook. I started journaling in college, during a time when I was carrying a lot of stress and anxiety about my future. Once I began writing, I felt lighter. Journaling gave me clarity and helped me clearly see the paths I wanted to take. Since then, I’ve filled around 10 journals. I firmly believe that journaling can change your life. It’s a space where you can express yourself freely and creatively. There are no rules or formats—just you and your thoughts.
For those who prefer some guidance (like me), here are some ways you can use journaling to stay grounded:
Ways to Use Your Journal:
- Gratefulness
Every day, I try to write down at least three things I’m grateful for—big or small. Some days, I’m thankful to be alive; others, it’s for my coffee, my job, or just having my five senses. Gratitude changes daily, but what’s important is being true to yourself. Use colors or pens that resonate with you—my favorites are Tombow Dual Brush Pens and Caliart Markers. - Creative freedom
When I first bought a journal, it was just to write down my thoughts at the end of the day. Now, I have another journal that’s purely for creative expression. Some days, I write my monthly goals; other days, I use it for wellness business notes. How you use your journal is up to you—the creative freedom is all yours. And trust me, after just one journaling session, your creativity will thrive! - Journal prompts
If you’re looking to use journaling as a way to ground yourself, journal prompts can be incredibly helpful. They guide you to reflect on specific aspects of your life. I’ve put together some prompts to help you ground yourself this fall. You can download the free, fully editable PDF to get started!
Getting Organized
There’s no better way to ground yourself than by staying organized during the busy season. Rather than letting appointments, meetings, and to-do lists pile up, plan ahead! Set aside one day each week (Sunday or Monday works best for me) to get organized. Here’s what I recommend:
- Plan your meals
- Create your shopping list
- Map out your work and personal schedules
- Book any necessary appointments
- Review your finances and bills
- Schedule your cleaning tasks
At first, this might seem overwhelming. But once you get into the habit of organizing your life, you’ll feel much calmer. Organization is one of my specialties in wellness coaching. If you need help getting started, I’d love to work with you—schedule a free discovery session, and we can create a plan that fits your life!
Yoga and Meditation
If you know me, you won’t be surprised I’m bringing up yoga and meditation. These two practices go hand in hand and are incredible for grounding. When you practice yoga, you’re already meditating, whether through a brief breathing exercise at the beginning or in Savasana at the end. Yoga and meditation can be explicitly designed to help you stay grounded, primarily when focusing on the root chakra, which is all about security and stability.
Here are a few poses that can help ground you:
When life gets hectic, picking up a book might seem like the last thing you want to do. But hear me out—reading can help reduce stress, motivate you, and inspire personal growth. Learning how to improve yourself brings you closer to your true self, and that’s a grounding experience. Personally, I’ve found that books have inspired me to take major steps in my life, from pursuing my purpose to studying yoga, chakras, and holistic wellness.

Plan One Self-Care Day Per Week
Though this tip comes last, it might just be the most important. If you take one piece of advice from this blog, let it be this: take care of yourself. Do the things you love, explore new hobbies, dive deep into the ones you already enjoy, take long baths, go for walks, eat nourishing foods, and pamper yourself with love. No one will love you better than you—so make time for that love. Block out the noise and focus on your well-being.
